The Montana Firefighter Testing Consortium typically conducts a joint testing process every year during the month of June for development of a list of qualified candidates for the position of entry-level firefighter. Registration for the 2010 testing is now open. The deadline for registering is February 19th. More information and registration form are available by clicking the Registration, then Process link in the left column.
Participating in the process are the Montana Fire Departments of Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls, Helena, Miles City, Butte, and Missoula and Missoula Rural and Lockwood Fire Districts.
Each of the participating Fire Departments requires the candidates to have a valid driver's license, a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent certification, and to be at least 18 years of age to apply.
Qualifications and pay scales vary greatly from department to department. Salary and benefit information will be included in the pre-test packets when available.
The process consists of two parts: a written and a physical ability test. Successful completion of the written portion is required before the candidate moves on to the physical ability portion of the testing process.
Job application materials from each consortium department will be available to candidates after they have successfully completed the testing process. Candidates will need to submit their applications to the department(s) they are interested in working for. Each participating department has their own post-testing application process, each with separate deadlines. The qualified candidate pool will be used until the next testing session. Once a person is hired by one of the participating departments, his/her name will be removed from the qualified candidate pool list.
Successful completion of the testing process does not constitute an offer of employment.
